Vietnamese captures smiles on round-the-world journey

Anh Tien Trinh has focused on smiling faces during his long journey around the world through 'SHINE', a special art project that syncs landscapes with portraits.
A woman accompanies her son on his tricycle en route to Lake Moriri in Ladakh, India. "I often spend time in rural regions. In these areas, I have encountered nothing but honesty. It seems that matter and status have never affected local souls. When people smile at me, I know they mean it," Trinh said.

"In war-time, there were no men in the village. Women worked the fields, the hills. Early each morning, they would count how many fathers, husbands, and sons from the village had died since the previous night. Pain callused their hearts. When I passed them I asked if I could take a photo. There was a moment they simply forgot about what was happening in their lives," Trinh recalled his journey in February 2017 through Hsipaw, Shan State, Myanmar. "They showed me the most beautiful thing I had ever seen in my life, their smiles."
Girls carry clean water back to their families in Nanyara, Tanzania. "Misery and happiness are ever present. The important thing is to remember beautiful things," the photographer said.

A couple rides a bicycle in Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan. "It is my pleasure to meet sincere and hospitable people. I wanted to keep those happy and honest memories as a gift from my journey."

"SHINE may not be the most beautiful fine art project, but I hope it can awake honest and happy emotions in anyone who sees it," the photographer held. "SHINE" is one of seven grand photo projects that Trinh has undertaken. The others include "Come from Vietnam", "Asia - Home Sweet Home", "Africa - The Black Legend", "Arctic Circle - The White Legend", "Another World" and "The A".
